Overview
birds and clouds from one life to another by Sydney-based German born artist Sylvia Schwenk and German artist Nikola Dicke references Bertolt Brecht’s poem The Lovers and centres around a work of participatory performance art that will see a group of model plane pilots from Germany and Holland working together to fly their model planes in a choreographed performance set to music written especially for this performance. On the day of the performance the spectators and pilots will be invited to create large origami crane bird sculptures and smaller origami mobiles – which feature in Brecht’s poem – in a workshop held by the artists. The large origami sculptures will feature in a performance later in the day. There will also be a BBQ to celebrate the event. One of the aims of this work is to build relationships across art and the sport of model plane flying, as well as building new relationships with pilots and spectators. This work will be performed on Saturday 2 July, 2011 in Bad Bentheim (on the German and Dutch border) starting at 3pm. Over the period 2010 to 2014 the GrensWerte program commissions 10-15 art projects each year, from all disciplines to be presented in the German-Dutch border region. GrensWerte is a cooperative project of Münster eV, Art & Cultuur Overijssel and EUREGIO. The project is co-financed under the INTERREG IV A Programme-Nederland Germany through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the economic affairs of the states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony and the provinces of Overijssel and Gelderland. Das Kunstprojekt des australisch-deutschen Künstlerinnenduos Sylvia Schwenk und Nikola Dicke birds and clouds from one life to another basiert auf Bertolt Brechts Gedicht Die Liebenden, in dem ein Kranichschwarm die Hauptrolle spielt. Auch am 2. Juli steht daher das Fliegen im Mittelpunkt: in einer Kunst-Performance wird eine Gruppe von deutschen und holländischen Piloten mit ihren Modellflugzeugen eine Choreographie zu einer Musik fliegen, die speziell für die Performance geschrieben wurde. Nach dieser Vorführung sind alle Zuschauer und Piloten eingeladen große Origami-Kranich-Skulpturen und kleine Origami-Kranich-Mobiles zu bauen. Grenswerte ist ein grenzüberschreitender Kunst- und Kulturreigen in der EUREGIO. Von 2010 bis 2014 werden in der deutsch-niederländischen Grenzregion jedes Jahr 10 bis 15 Kunstprojekte aller Sparten entwickelt und durchgeführt. Vandaar dat ook 2 juli het vliegen centraal staat: in een kunstperformance zal een groep, bestaande uit Duitse en Nederlandse piloten, met hun modelvliegtuigen een choreografie op een muziekstuk vliegen die speciaal voor deze performance werd geschreven. Na deze voorstelling zijn alle toeschouwers en piloten uitgenodigd grote Origami-kraanvogel-sculptures en kleine Origami-kraanvogel-mobiles te maken.
